Preliminary phytochemical analysis and quantitative estimation of primary metabolites of leaf and stem of Oxalis corniculata

Oxalis corniculata, commonly identified as creeping woodsorrel or yellow woodsorrel, is an herbaceous plant with a rich history of traditional medicinal use. In this study, we conducted a preliminary phytochemical analysis and quantitative estimation of primary metabolites of the stem as well as leaf of Oxalis corniculata. The phytochemical broadcast of leaves and stems revealed the presence of physical appearance and consistency, carbohydrates, proteins, phenols, flavonoids, sterols, alkaloids, saponins and tannin which was estimated using different standard methods. Result suggested that the chloroform, ethanol and water are the finest solvent for the taking out of phytochemicals of the leaves and stem of the Oxalis corniculata. Furthermore, behaviour of powder of Oxalis corniculata with different chemical reagents suggested presence of reactive groups in extracted phytochemicals. Soluble sugar, starch, lipid content, phenol and ascorbic acid is comparatively high in phytochemicals extracted from Oxalis corniculata stem as compared to its leaves. Recent discoveries deliver appreciated understandings into the chemical composition and potential health benefits of Oxalis corniculata, highlighting its potential as a foundation of bioactive mixtures with pharmacologic and nutritional significance.
