Abstract

The electronic waste also known as e-waste consists of broken or discarded electrical or electronic equipment. The widespread use of electronic goods and dumping of electronic goods by the developed countries has brought the e-waste problem in India to an acute crisis. The toxic and hazardous substances present in e-waste pose a danger to human health as well as environment. Concerted efforts by various players in the electronics industry, academic community and the government are required to implement a systematic e-waste management system in India.  This paper attempts to provide a brief insight into the concept of e-waste in India, the environmental and health hazards attached to it, the methods being used for e-waste management and the legislation work done regarding e-waste in India.
